While we’d all like a James Bond car, chances are most of us currently have to settle for something a little more modest. Don’t worry though; even with the most humble of cars you can still drive in style, by implementing some frugal techniques to make your driving more cost-efficient – saving you cash for other things.
First of all, you might find it’s time to scale down your car, and opt for something with a little less power in favour of using a little less fuel. Smaller engines are far more energy-efficient, and there are a number of interesting economical cars on the market at the moment.
If you don’t want to downsize, or you’re looking to save even more, here are some of our top tips for reducing your driving costs:
- Inflate your tyres to reduce drag – this forces your car to work harder, using more fuel.
- Allow time to accelerate slowly. Acceleration uses a lot of energy, so by reducing the effort required you can really cut down on your fuel usage.
- Avoid using the air conditioning. It uses surprisingly large amounts of fuel, and sometimes opening the window a crack is much more efficient!
